The Chief Marketing Officer at Microsoft’s Xbox division has had a few things to say about the upcoming Google Stadia gaming platform. In an interview with The Telegraph, Mike Nichols states that emerging competitors may have a good cloud infrastructure but the “don’t have the content”.
“Emerging competitors like Google have a cloud infrastructure, a community with YouTube, but they don’t have the content,” Nichols told The Telegraph. Acknowledging that future competitors may have good systems for cloud infrastructure in place already but also pointing out that it’s possible they will lack the games to attract players.
In a follow up comment to IGN, a Microsoft spokesperson added that they were looking to give players more choice and opportunity in playing across all devices through Project xCloud. It’s still unclear what Project xCloud will include in terms of devices and games but Microsoft is clearly confident.
Right now the concern for Google Stadia is that it won’t have the first party games it needs to drawn in gamers. Why go with Stadia when there are alternatives coming such as Project xCloud? That is the debate right now.
