Marvel’s Avengers is the culmination of a very engaging and exciting story about the Avengers which are in demise and we only have Kamala Khan trying to bring them back in order to fight the Aim enemies. The game does a great job at sharing a unique story, even if the multiplayer part of the title was deemed as very repetitive and with its fair share of challenges.
The story itself is quite interesting since we get to recruit various Avengers characters one by one, while also learning more about AIM and their motive. It’s all about bringing in the fun and excitement here, and there are some great set pieces into the game too. That alone makes it stand out right away, although the story can also be a bit of a slog at times. Yet the fights are great and since you can switch between characters, there are some cool moments, especially when we are facing all kinds of bosses too.
At its core, Marvel’s Avengers is an action adventure game, and you mostly need to focus on fulfilling certain missions in order to move on to the story and delve deeper into the gameplay. Since every character has their own unique motifs and features, it’s safe to say that there’s a lot to experiment with. After all, every character has their own attacks, and you can also access and upgrade abilities as you play. Add to that the fact that the game adds new characters from time to time, and you can see why it’s a good idea to get back into the fray.
Another important aspect is that since its launch, the game did bring in some cool story expansions, related to Hawkeye, but also Hulk or Black Panther. It’s nice to see these things because they added more content and meat to the story. That’s the cool aspect and it’s totally a thing to take into consideration here.
The multiplayer of the game is what received quite a lot of heat, and it’s easy to see why. The fact that you only have a limited number of maps does make the game feel repetitive. And yes, at first the roster was limited, and the characters they added are cool, but many are variations of existing ones. With that being said, multiplayer missions are very similar to each other, and since you fight similar enemies all the time, the game gets stale. The lack of content did push a lot of people away while bringing less than stellar reviews.
The soundtrack and sound design are very well done. You do feel like you are in a superhero movie, and that’s really exciting. Add to that the fact that visuals here are top notch, and you will have a great time at least the first few playthroughs. The character design is also loyal to the comics, which is great because it’s something a lot of people wanted and expected from this title in particular.
Everyone has mixed feelings about Marvel’s Avengers. The story mode is great and certainly the highlight of the experience. However, the multiplayer lacks content and despite the fact some characters were added to the game, not all of them are that great, many tend to be variations of existing ones. The lack of new enemies and maps is definitely problematic and it hurts the replay value of this title significantly. So yes, even if the multiplayer is by far not the best, Marvel’s Avengers is still worth a try if you are a fan of great superhero stories. The story mode is definitely worth it!
Marvel’s Avengers
It's overall ok but feels a little lacking in gameplay variety and a little buggy. Marvel’s Avengers is still worth a try if you are a fan of great superhero stories.
