Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Review

Previous Assassin’s Creed titles were full of ordinary events that existed to check them off a list, but nearly every quest in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey folds back into its quest in some way. Most of its areas could host smaller role-playing on their own, but together they form an incomparably massive world that is full of exciting things to complete.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the 11th main game and 21st overall in Assassin’s Creed series. This Adventure-based Role-playing game takes place in the year 421BC and its story tells a fictional history of the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta. During the play, the player controls a male or a female protagonist who fights for both sides as they attempt to unite their family and try to uncover all the malign cult.

The game was released worldwide on October 5, 2018, for PS4, Microsoft Windows and Xbox One platforms with the Stadia version launching alongside the Google Stadia platform November 2019. Odyssey was praised for its stunning Visual, Open-World areas to explore, Well-Written Storyline, and of course powerful Characters while receiving criticism for some reliance on grinding and for feeling bloated.

Gameplay

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is an addictive feature-rich open-world video game places more emphasis on RPG elements as than the previous games in the series. The game offers advance level dialogue features, branching quests and multiple ending to make the game more attractive. At the beginning of the game, the player is able to choose the gender of the character, adopting the role of Alexios or Kassandra and get into the challenging game world. Both characters have their own skills, abilities, and play style. Odyssey also features a notoriety system in which mercenaries chase after the player if they commit any crime such as killing or stealing.

The protagonist is a mercenary and descendant of the Spartan kind Leonidas I. They receive his broken spear that is forgotten into the blade in order to become the main weapon that grants the player lots of special attacks during the combat. The impressive fact about this game is that it uses a skill tree system that allows the player to unlock new skills to complete challenging quests. All these skills are Hunter that improve the character archery, Warrior that puts emphasis on battle and Assassin that focuses on stealth. This replaces the overall system used in Origins that granted the player set passive skills. During the gameplay, the player is able to freely move in the game world, communicate with non-playable characters to take quests and try to complete them all. Each complete objective reward the player which he can use to unlock new abilities, weapons, and achievements.

The Hitbox combat system also returns in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and is expanded up to grant the player access to lots of special skills when the skill bar files up. All these skills include calling a rain of arrow and a powerful kick to knock opponent balance. The game also has enhanced gear system in which each piece of armor has its own different statistics and deliver a range of unique benefits. These can be equipped and upgraded individually. Odyssey introduces a new Novel Combat System with the player having access to Hellenistic-era warships to explore the Aegean Sea. The battle between Athens and Sparta is signified through the War System that allows the player to take contracts from mercenaries and participate in multiple battles against hostile factions.

Romance

Romantic Relationships with non-playable characters are now a thing in Odyssey that marks the first time romanceable characters have been included in the Assassin’s Creed series.

The system is quite simple to find a romanceable character and, pick the right dialogue options and get to romance them. But you just need to know all the useful things such as a list of all romanceable characters in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and their locations.

All weapons

Odyssey takes place in Ancient Greece that is full of pirates, deadly chickens, and different kinds of bloodthirsty creatures that make it difficult to survive. There is something that you must do to yourself safe. In order to survive in the game world, you must need to locate, create or unlock powerful weapons. The best thing about this game is that most weapons in Odyssey are randomly-generated. However, there are some legendary weapons that grant wonderful engravings and excellent boons.

Here is a list of all main weapons in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

  • Hades Bow
  • The Fanged Bow
  • Dagger of Kronus
  • Mallet of Everlasting Flame

Mercenaries

Odyssey has its own system of checks and balances with a new addition of mercenaries. Because there is no police service, citizens will employ mercenaries to take out people who have wronged them.

New Abilities

The game spices up the series combat with new skills. During any combat, you build up an ability meter that can be spent on the handful of skills such as a ranged attack that allow you to nock multiple arrows in a one-shot, a melee move where you steal your enemy shield and bash them, and a powerful Spartan kick that sends enemies flying.

Choose Character

The game allows you to choose your one of two characters between, a female, or a male character. Both protagonists are descendants of Leonidas I, the king of Sparta during the second Persian War. The choice won’t affect the overall game, but it enables players to further personalize their experience.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Continues on from the foundations set from Black Flag and Origins to deliver an interesting adventure in Greece. Some aspects need a bit of work, but overall a great experience that lives up to the Assassin's Creed name. A must play on Stadia!
