One of the few things we know about the Stadia platform is that Google has already been testing games on it. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was one of those games and the company has been working to get it to 60FPS streaming with 1080p resolution.
A good start but it doesn’t seems to be enough for Google, they’re actually improving algorithms still. The aim to reach a target resolution of 4K with 60FPS. It will mean slightly higher megabits are used per second but the jump is not dramatic enough to cause problems for a large amount of people.
However, Google has dodged the potential issue of what this actually means in terms of overall internet usage or data-caps. The company argues that internet service providers will increase caps to accommodate consumer behaviours. Of course this doesn’t help those who are already on data-caps or slower internet speeds as it means they would be forced to wait until their ISP gives them the coverage they need.
Stadia will have 720p as the lowest resolution which may cause issues for people on slower speeds, specially if 720p is the max they can usually obtain. Google is reportedly working on technology that will protect game progress when there is a sudden internet drop. We do not have any more information on this right now however and Google is sure to mention this at E3 in June.
