This wasn’t a potential problem many considered when thinking about Google Stadia but the platform seems to be giving the Chromecast Ultra some trouble.
Not everyone has reported this to be a standard problem however, the problem is widespread enough to get a popular thread on the Stadia subreddit where other users are reporting the problem as well. The community manager, GraceFromGoogle, responded on that reddit threat stating that the team had done extensive testing on the hardware including long Stadia play but had not seen thermal shutdown problems. The Chromecast Ultra may get warm during normal usage but that’s the device working as designed according to the community manager who adds “there is no thermal overheating issue”.
Technically this is nothing new for the Chromecast Ultra, in the past there have been reports of them shutting down due to overheating from extensive use. However, it seems to be happening considerably more now.
Hopefully Google will look more into the problem and will have more detailed answers in the near future.
