Stadia launched in November last year and while the outlook seemed initially good, it seems like it might be losing players. Destiny 2 has lost over half of its playerbase on the cloud streaming service since it launched.
The launch of Google Stadia did come with free access to the full version of Destiny 2 for a limited time. One of the suspected issues is the fact that Destiny 2 relies on being able to team up with other players and a lower player pool in the first place does make it more difficult to progress. The Stadia edition of the game originally had over 19,000 players at launch however, this number is now down to just over 8,000 instead.
At the moment it’s difficult to know if the population count will make a come back. The Base version of Stadia is set to release later this year which should bring a lot more players to the cloud streaming service. Hopefully, Destiny 2 will be able to survive until then.
