Google Stadia Pricing and Launch Details

Google finally unveiled the release date for the Stadia service and it’s a little more confusing than we all expected it to be. It does release this year but only in the “Founder’s Edition” which is priced at $130. For everyone else, it will be 2020 before we get our hands on the service.

Founder’s Edition

This edition is now available for pre-order and is the only way to access the service in 2019. It will launch in November of this year and costs a fair bit more than the other version,

Pricing: $130

It does come with some benefits of course to help sweeten the deal and the sale. It comes with a three month subscription to the Stadia Pro service and also a buddy pass for a friend to have three month access as well. It will come with a limited edition night blue controller and also a Chromecast Ultra.

Stadia Pro

Now this is the subscription service model that most of us were expecting the Stadia to have. It costs $10 per month and will give users access to a library of free games for the duration of their subscription, very much like the Xbox Game Pass. It will also include exclusive discounts on game purchases (like the Xbox Game Pass) and will allow games to be streamed in up to 4K with 60FPS an HDR in 5.1 Surround Sound.

It will also come with Destiny 2 including all previous and upcoming add-ons for a limited time.

Stadia Base

The base version of the service allows users to buy and keep games permanently which can then be streamed at up to 1080p with 60FPS. This is the free non-subscription version of Stadia that everyone can use. Of course this is the version that releases in 2020 instead of this year.

Google has not provided a more specific launch window for Stadia Base other than the year 2020 so it seems like we’ll need to wait a little longer for it.
