The popularity of console gaming has been on the rise for a long time and their far and wide acclaim and use did not seem like it would dwindle down in the slightest- that was until Google decided to rock it all up and completely change the name of the game with an incredibly ambitious idea that is, supposedly, ready to be implemented and executed by the tech giant.
Google Stadia is one of the most anticipated tech services of the year and rightly so. If you are still wondering what exactly all of the fuss is all about, here is a little rundown on what has gone down and why you should be excited:
What does it all mean?
The first thing that may strike you as being a bit odd is the name of the device. What does ‘Google Stadia’ mean? What will the device actually do that sets it apart from its competitors?
Well, Google is set to take gaming to the next level quite literally by moving it onto the cloud. This means that you will be able to access high quality and high definition gaming platforms as a service on any device you own- you no longer need an expensive console to play video games! Think of it as something along the lines of Netflix, but for video games. That is where the name has been extracted from: Stadia, which is the plural of the word ‘stadium’ signifies the amalgamation of entertainment that this device is set to be. You can put it on, sit back and enjoy, or get into the action and play yourself.
An overview of the new stadia
Google Stadia will be a streaming platform that will allow you to video game without the need to connect to a console. All you need is a Chrome browser and the Google Stadia controller and you are good to go. Not only that, but you can also connect to social and online platforms such as YouTube, all in one press of a button. This means that one moment you may be watching a live, online gameplay, and the next you may be able to actually play along with the streamer if they allow you to.
How exactly will it work?
As per Google, they have over thousands of data centers laid out across over 200 territories which will be hosting the cloud upon which the gaming service will run. As such, there is no need for physical infrastructure or equipment to be bought by the customers. All they need is an internet connection and a Chrome browser to access the world of Google gaming.
The amazing part is that this service does not come at the expense of quality. Google is guaranteeing a resolution of 4K with a 60 FPS frame rate and extremely high definition graphics in addition to no lag time if you have a sound internet connection.
When can I get my hands on it?
As of right now, we do not have an exact date for when the Stadia will be released but we do have an idea. In fact, we can confidently say that it will most likely be launched later this year in 2019 in the areas of US, Canada, UK, as well as most of Europe. Other regions may see a 2020 launch.
